Fuerteventura Beaches
Fuerteventura is renowned for having the best beaches throughout the whole archipelago of the Canary Islands and for many have some of the most impressive beaches in the whole of Europe. There are 150 beaches in total in Fuerteventura with approximately 125 miles of natural beach. This has made Fuerteventura the prime destination for beach lovers. Nudism is accepted in Fuerteventura and many of the more isolated beaches are nudist beaches however ‘family friendly’ beaches are plentiful and with the vast stretches of beaches throughout Fuerteventura you can always find your own ‘spot’. Numerous beaches on the island have been honoured with the ‘Blue flags’ meaning that they have passed 27 criteria’s, covering water quality, cleanliness, Environmental Education and Information, Environmental Management and Safety and Services. . The blue flag is granted one season at a time.
CORRALEJO
Corralejo Beach

Corralejo, on the northern tip of the island is a charming small town, home to some of the most impressive beaches in Fuerteventura. The town itself is surrounded by small calm white sandy beaches ideal for keen sunbathers and is extremely ‘family friendly’, close to amenities and offers a safe environment for young children.
To the south of Corralejo, is ‘Grandes Playas’, highly popular with all water sports enthusiasts and kite surfer daredevils. It is a perfect place to start with its crystal clear waters and white sandy beach that stretch for miles along the coastline. The famous sand dunes that have a national park status are an impressive site and run parallel to the coastline. This area is often used for many media events and shoots alike.

EL COTILLO
El Cotillo Beach

This quaint fishing village is surrounded by a range of quiet sandy beaches, blue lagoons and wilder areas of water ideal for surfers and windsurfers but be cautious as this part of the coast is notorious for its strong under currents.. Fishing here is also a popular past time as the water conditions are ideal. 
Those wishing for a closer look at the northern coast can drive along a track which runs from Corralejo to El Cotillo taking approximately 1 hour, a rather rocky ride so a 4x4 is advisable. A substantial range of bars and restaurants are available in El Cotillo.

CALAS DE PUERTO
Calas de Puerto Beach

This beach positioned between la Oliva and Puerto de Rosario is beautifully natural in its remote location and accessible by boat. Its beach is a mixture of pebbles and fine golden sand. It is a very windy spot and the waves are rather ferocious but the remoteness may appeal to the more adventurous. There are no amenities on this small beach so if visiting make sure you have provisions with you.

LOBOS ISLAND
Lobos Islands
A day excursion to the isolated island of Los Lobos by boat just a few kilometres from the town of Corralejo offers the visitor an idealist day either enjoying the peaceful sandy beach or snorkelling in the gentle waters surrounding the island. It is recommended that you take some provisions with you as amenities are scarce on the island as it is only inhabited by a small number of fishermen.
PUERTO DEL ROSARIO
Playa Blanca
A short walk from the capital, Puerto de Rosario you will come across Playa Blanca beach. Half a mile of pure white sandy beach is mainly enjoyed by the locals during their lunch breaks. Undercurrents can be strong on this beach and in peak season a flag system is used so bathers know when it is safe to enter the water. Lifeguards are also present during busy periods. A new promenade is under construction to link the city to the beach.
CALETA DE FUSTE
Caleta de Fuste

Caleta de Fuste is one of the major purpose built resorts on the island and is centred on a large horseshoe shaped bay. Its beach is man made with imported sand creating an ideal spot for young families protected by the sea wall of the harbour providing safe swimming conditions instead of the otherwise strong undercurrents. The natural characteristic of the cove or ‘Caleta’ means that there is a gentle slope into the sea. Further lagoon shaped bathing areas can be found nearby which have been made by digging holes into the rocks behind the shoreline and imported sand has been used again for the beach area.

The beaches are clean and well maintained, sun beds, bars and restaurants are readily available around the beach areas. The harbour provided facilities for water sport enthusiast.
AJUY
Ajuy

If pure tranquillity is what you are looking for a visit to Ajuy beach is a must. This beach stretches to about 300 meters and has fine black sand.  Invariably the traditional Canarian fishing boats can be seen waiting on the beaches for there next fishing trip.
It is advisable not to swim too far out as the seas can be quite rough in these parts. The sometimes wild waters produce some fantastic seascape enjoyed by all ages.
The village itself positioned on the southwest coast of the island is a restful area with a few commendable restaurants to try. Ajuy also has some caves and are known as the oldest part of the canaries geologically speaking. Beauty is within the surrounding sceneries where the Atlantic Ocean has naturally eroded away the landscape leaving caves and gorges

A short drive away is where the famed S.S American star lies stranded and is worth a visit if in the area. A 4x4 is recommended.
LA PARED
La Pared Beach

La pared is positioned on the south of the island and sits on the narrow piece of land known as La Pared (the wall) that joins the southern cape with the rest of Fuerteventura. Access to this black volcanic sand and pebble beach is via a dirt track and lies in a little bay where the water at times can be wild and rough but it does offers absolute tranquillity to the visitor. The village of La Pared is equally as quiet with a hand full of bungalows and one hotel.

La pared gets its name from the stone wall that ran from the east to the west of the island and is believed to be the border between the two kingdoms that separated the island at the time of the conquests.
VIEJO REY
Viejo Rey

Viejo Rey, positioned next door to La Pared, is a long stretch of golden sand. The wild character of this beach makes it beautiful and also has plenty of sand dunes. As with La Pared the rough seas are not for the faint-hearted or weak swimmers. Further south there is a sequence of small beaches, ideal for anyone seeking privacy.

GINIGINAMAR
Giniginamar Beach
Giniginamar is one of the most peaceful beaches on the island. It has black volcanic sand and pebbles and is enclosed by palm trees and a variety of local plants. The small village is an ideal place to stop for local tapas and to practise your language skills. On the outskirts of the village there is a bundle of small white washed buildings set in a tiny sheltered bay of turquoise waters.
JANDIA
Jandia Beach
The Jandia peninsula is classed as a nature reserve and is divided from the rest of the island. It is bounded by immense stretches of white sandy beaches and turquoise waters. To the west, the beaches known as the Barlovento beaches are fierce and the violent undercurrents make it dangerous to swim in.
SOTAVENTO
Sotavento Beach


In contrast, to the east the two tourist resorts of Costa Calma and Morro Jable enjoy an impressive 25km of white sandy beaches known as playa de Sotovento, that has been the inspiration for many photos and postcards. Many say this beach has brought Fuerteventura its fame.
The stretch of beach itself ranges from private coves in Costa Calma, marvellous dunes to vast desert landscapes.

This coast is known for its naturally beautiful scenery and also for the ideal conditions for water sports, hence a very popular windsurfing venue. This whole area is ideal for beginners to the most advanced water sports enthusiasts’ with almost guaranteed wind conditions and flat waters for beginners and the open seas for the more advanced. Playa de Sotovento is home to the world CPU kite and windsurfing championships.
COFETE
Cofete Beach

Cofete beach is located in the municipality of Pajara and lies in the natural park of Jandia, white sandy beaches stretch for approximately 4 kilometres but access is not the easiest but once there a superb place to get away from some of the busier beaches. The waters here can be quite rough so caution when swimming is recommended.

The village of Cofete is located to the south of the untamed and open beaches of Cofete and consists of a tiny settlement which seem to only be used as a weekend get away.
