Salinas de Antingua Golf Course in Fuerteventura

The grounds of “Golf Resort Salinas de Antigua”, are composed of hills and dunes that protect it from the wind, desert-areas and four lakes. With regards to the kind of course, it may be described as a design that requires not only a player’s technical ability but also strategic ability.
THE HOLES
The 1st hole a par 5 is a nice start to your round, with a comfortable drive to a large fairway, getting you into the groove, the choice then is whether to go for the green or play up short, but be aware the green is surrounded with huge bunkers.
The second and third holes both par 4 should be comfortably reachable in two, providing your shots are straight, if you are off line you could find your self with the ball well above your feet or well below, for your approach to the green.
The forth is very tricky, the tee shot has to be accurate to avoid the desert areas, and needs to be centre left, for the approach to the green over a massive lake, so make sure you get it in the air, as a grub hunter will put you in the water.
The fifth is a short par 3; right centre is the line with lots of water to the left.
The sixth a par 4 avoid the left side as this is desert area, and the green has a huge array of bunkers in front of it.
Holes seven and eight a par 4 and par 3, just keep the ball straight to avoid the desert areas to the right, and the hills to the left.
The ninth has a subtle right to left dog leg which you drive to, depending on your position or how far the shot, you may be faced with a second shot over a corner protected with bunkers, after completing the 1st nine the club house is directly in front of you.
Just a short walk around the practice area brings you to the tenth tee a par 4, for big hitters consider your drive carefully as there are fairway bunkers that can catch your drive, the green has bunkers left, right and at the back, so the right club choice and accuracy is required.
The eleventh a par 4, is a dog leg left to right, for those that fancy having a smash over the corner, make sure you get it right, with over three hundred yards off the back tee, you will have to carry water nearly all the way. If you play the dog leg your approach will still be across water but a much shorter distance.
Hole twelve a short par 3, with a huge lake to the right, and bunkers to the left, and back, once again an accurate shot required.
The thirteenth, a long par 5, has a wide fairway for your drive and second shot, but the shot to the green has to be a good one, to the left is a lake that juts into the fairway, and lots of bunkers to the right.
Hole fourteen, just a short par 3, club selection is everything, as well as a good swing and a great shot, as there is water to the front, left, and at the back.
Fifteen a fairly straight forward par 4, but if your run off the fairway you could find yourself in one of the desert areas.
Hole sixteen a par three, the line is right centre avoiding a huge desert area to the left.
Seventeen, a good par 5, the fairway is reasonable wide, but accuracy is still very important, with a large desert area to the left , bunkers to the right, and also in front of the green.
The eighteenth hole a par 4, if your having a great round and the pressure is on, all you need is a smooth swing, good connection, and hit the ball dead straight, your final approach shot of the round is simple, just nock it on the green, because if you don’t lots of sand awaits.

Glover locks in down stretch to prevail

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. -- Lucas Glover steadied his hands for a 3-foot par putt on the 18th hole, an anticlimactic finish to five dreary days at a U.S. Open filled with more delays than drama.
The unlikely champion turned to soak up a beautiful sight beneath gathering clouds Monday at Bethpage Black.
"I just looked at the scoreboard to make sure this was really happening," Glover said.
Some 24,000 fans, speckled with mud from a long walk soiled, could surely relate.

Glover never lost the lead over the final 12 holes, even though the attention was always on someone else. He closed with a 3-over 73 for a 2-shot victory in a U.S. Open that might be remembered more for the week than the winner.
The stage belonged to Phil Mickelson, as it usually does in New York.
Lefty charged into a share of the lead with a startling bid to finally win the Open, his final event before a summer of uncertainty as his wife battles breast cancer. A fairy-tale finish turned all too familiar, however, when Mickelson missed two par putts over the last four holes and wound up setting the wrong kind of record by finishing second for the fifth time in the American national championship.
